This summer, Boston has taken a huge step towards fighting skin cancer. Green spaces including many city parks now have free sunscreen dispensers for public use. Boston is the first major city in the Northeast to take part of this program by The Melanoma Foundation of New England and Make Big Change in response to the Surgeon General’s 2014 Call to Action to address skin cancer as a major public concern. According to Boston Magazine, there are currently 30 dispensers in parks citywide and the city is planning to set up even more.
Hopefully other cities across the world will follow the wonderful example that Boston has given for taking sun protection seriously. To learn more and lend your support please visit http://mfne.org/.
